As you are done with learning SEO, now it’s time for the site. This is the crucial step in setting up an SEO business, as everyone will first have a look at your website, there is no way that clients will come to you directly and give the projects to you.
NOTE: When I first started in this business, I had absolutely no experience of face to face selling. However, after landing only my second meeting using the techniques I’ve already explained in the guide so far, I managed to secure my first client in only my second meeting with a business owner… And it was a deal worth £2,000 (~US$3,200) per month!
I personally set-up about 20 second-tier links that I continuously ping and pass on link juice to my own blogs. That way, I do not have to worry about negative rankings from low quality first tier links.
As I said, luck is usually the sum of preparation + opportunity. Give yourself a pat on the back for being so “lucky,” then keep up the good work. This field changes so often that it’s almost impossible to stay current on everything and still have time to apply that knowledge to your actual work! That’s why I suggest specializing in a particular aspect of the field. It narrows your focus, concentrates your skills, and makes you more valuable to clients (not to mention employers!). Congrats on your success, Vanessa!
Many companies net out in the middle – high profile executives and writers or product people are authorized, encourages, and reviewed and compensated based on their social authority and the metrics of the content they create and promote on ‘earned’ platforms.
Survey responses show a drop in the blunt objective of driving traffic, but it remains a key goal for search engine optimization (SEO). Perhaps more interesting is the doubled number of agencies citing brand/reputation as a goal, up from 5% in 2011 to over 11% in this year’s survey
I would help them with SEO audits, citations (core online profiles/directories), on-page SEO, speed optimization and Google Search Console. In 3 months my website was getting around 500 visitors/day resulting in about 2 inquiries/day for my services. This was on top of the $600/month affiliate income through my blog.
Once you have that data, you should try to fix the identified issues. If you do this with your customers on a monthly basis and you see the survey responses improving, you are doing well. If not, you have an operational problem within your business.
Overall, this is a very good post that brings up a lot of good points, but if anybody is serious about starting an SEO/SEM company… it’s all about strong sales and reliable cashflow, and don’t let anybody tell you otherwise.
If you can’t already see the value in Power Leads Pro X just from this feature alone then allow me to list exactly what I do with not only the thousands of business listing I generate with this amazing tool but the other features of the software that bring me in new clients regularly;
Use a piece of software called SEO Power Suite. This software has many brilliant features that will assist you in your day to day running of your SEO business but more importantly it can create very professional looking SEO reports that you can then use as free SEO reports to pass on to your clients.
Page 3: Keywords and search volume. This page should contain a list of keywords and related monthly search volume in Google for each keyword. The keyword research stage is a very important one and you need to ensure that you do it right in order to maximise your potential earnings from each client. You must make sure that you provide the client with a list of as many keywords as you can possibly find that have reasonable monthly search volume (I personally never include any keyword that has less than 100 searches per month).
I am always trying to give information out, even though I often feel that I’m working for free (my FD certainly thinks so!) as it just builds your reputation as the go to expert when people have a problem that they cannot solve.
Your website is the hub of your SEO business. In the 10 years I ran my agency, I had at least 15 different sites. Pay attention, I’m going to save you a lot of time, energy and AB testing by telling you exactly what worked and what didn’t work. To make this easy, just remember two simple words, “clean” and “simple”. Forget everything else, and ignore everything you see in web design today. Most website are terrible, even the ones created by amazing and talented graphic designers. Here’s why. When a customer comes to your website they want to know three things. Who you are, what you’ve done and how to contact you. That’s it. Everything else is bullshit. This isn’t just my opinion. It’s a conclusion based on analytics and years of obsessive studying and experience.
Don’t get me wrong, this takes a lot of hard work to do, but essentially you only need to know the basics of SEO to get started. There are lots of sites online that you can learn how to do this (OnlineIncomeTeacher is a good place to start!), but once you learn, you can begin to turn it into a business.
Don’t worry; it’s not difficult to do either. By using Market Samurai, you can not only research the keywords and get the search volume for each, this amazing software also provides you with various competition level indicators that help you evaluate how hard it’s going to be to rank top for each keyword.
JFK’s quote, “Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.” seems apropos here. The “violence” is the efforts of blackhat SEOs and advertisers to take back their share of what was lost through whatever methods they can use to circumvent Google’s guidelines.
It takes a lot of work Troy, but as you develop your skills and talents, you can begin to outsource a few things here and there to a virtual assistant. Spend time focusing ON your business in addition to IN your business
Now, this is not to say that you shouldn’t promote / establish yourself online, just saying that even though this is a great long-term objective, it’s a generally poor and unreliable strategy to claim market share when you’re just starting out.
Starting an SEO agency from scratch is probably the most difficult. The startup costs are pretty low, because all you really need is a website and a way to fulfill services. Setting up is easy, but getting clients is tough. Trying to get organic visibility for SEO services will be tough because you will be competing with SEO agencies that have been doing it for years. These agencies will have a track record, organic rankings and testimonials.
This is not for the faint of heart and comes with all types of stress points. It is highly rewarding to work for yourself and succeed in an innovative market — I believe the Pro’s outweigh the Con’s — but each person is unique and you need to be certain this is right for you. Go the part-time, side job approach at first to make sure you are mentally, physically & financially ready to fly solo and start your own SEO business. Good luck if you take the plunge!
