If you employ this method properly, it can literally be the only form of marketing you EVER have to do to generate new clients. Another method you must also employ is to offer your paying clients exactly the same deal.
Your time needs to be dedicated to what you do best, getting SEO results. Trust me on this. Don’t waste your valuable time on things anyone can do. The person you hire as your assistant should be a entry level person, looking to get into the industry. This is the perfect job for them. They can assist you for a couple years, then when they get experience and knowledge of the industry you can move them into a more important position, like doing some of the things you do. After all, they’ve shadowed you for years. They must have learned a lot.
Hi just started my own SEO business and we are finding getting customers is really hard as lots of businesses still don’t even know what SEO is and seem to think you just click a few buttons and your at the top of the search engines.
What I started doing was estimating how much more traffic I could drive to the companies. I would take their current rankings and use the multiplier from this table. So, if they ranked #6 for a keyword that drove them 1,000 visitors a month and I thought I could take them to #1, I would estimate that I could drive them 10,400 visitors, which is 9,400 extra visitors than they currently have.
3) Have very clearly articulated expectations. Sometimes it is not possible to have everything clearly defined in terms of what eventually needs to be accomplished. For such projects I have learned over time to make sure to include in the contract (a) clearly defined tangible deliverables and (b) clearly defined activities that I would do. For ex., if I am doing a Needs Assessment for a community-based organization (CBO), I wouldn’t now just say a “report with findings and recommendations.” Because a “report” can mean totally different things to different people. I now would actually spell out anticipated page number range, and actually bring to the client several examples of such/similar reports (my own and others) and nail it down with the client (and “stakeholders”): “Here, is this the kind of report we are talking about? If not, let’s agree what’s different you would like to see, etc.”
If you have a small website, you can do some on-page SEO and off-page SEO.On-page SEO refers to optimize the TDK (title, keywords, descriptions), external links, original content, updates and conversion etc..
In any case, photography technique is something we know a lot about and this would probably be the most through knowledge we could give back. Similarly, leads (small businesses that sell products) who can’t afford to hire us may try to photograph their products themselves & at this point we could connect with them until they are large enough to outsource their photography.
This is not for the faint of heart and comes with all types of stress points. It is highly rewarding to work for yourself and succeed in an innovative market — I believe the Pro’s outweigh the Con’s — but each person is unique and you need to be certain this is right for you. Go the part-time, side job approach at first to make sure you are mentally, physically & financially ready to fly solo and start your own SEO business. Good luck if you take the plunge!
Once you have that data, you should try to fix the identified issues. If you do this with your customers on a monthly basis and you see the survey responses improving, you are doing well. If not, you have an operational problem within your business.
You would think this goes without saying, but you’d be surprised to know how many people want to start a SEO consulting business without knowing SEO that well. It takes a couple of years of working with websites, analyzing web traffic and writing articles in order to become proficient in SEO. There are some basic skills you should already have, such as identifying and analyzing keywords, writing quality content, using Google Analytics or other similar analytic programs, writing meta tags and meta descriptions etc.
I used to rely on the word of mouth as my main revenue source. It’s easy to build a six-figure SEO agency, assuming you can provide the service. It’s really hard to create a seven-figure business from it though.
It’s also best if you can educate yourself ahead of time using the resources Neil mentioned above (SEW & SEOBook). Plus check out some tools like SEOMoz and Hubspot. The more knowledge you have about the search engine landscape, the better equipped you will be to find a good company to work with.
To better understand the importance of listings and citations (a concept I’ll explain below), let’s look at the motives and experiences of two very important variables: the search engine and the consumer.
Local pack results are evaluated and ranked in a way that is similar to traditional organic results, but there are some important steps that need to be taken by business owners in order to optimize their site’s performance in local results. Here’s how to do exactly that.
I would help them with SEO audits, citations (core online profiles/directories), on-page SEO, speed optimization and Google Search Console. In 3 months my website was getting around 500 visitors/day resulting in about 2 inquiries/day for my services. This was on top of the $600/month affiliate income through my blog.
You can start your own SEO company but before that, you need to understand how to be so. To start up an SEO company is a very tough task. If you are defined by the process and if you learn how to make your website work, you can become an entrepreneur.
Be sure to add your business details to all local and major national online business directories. These listings are not only good for taking advantage of the traffic on these directory sties but the listings also act as good citations to help boost your Google Places/Maps listing in the search engines.
Despite what your competitors are doing and despite what you’ve read and may have been doing for the past few years, SEO is not just tweaking, optimizing and link building. It’s optimizing and mostly link earning. Earning links to your client’s site is more natural and safer. you can earn links by creating amazing content that your client’s target market would love to read and share. Here are a few examples:
What ?? Boy do I feel stupid. I mess around for hours and hours reading and testing and trying different ideas . And for me atleast SEO . Is a difficult ever changing tedius project. My God . I would absolutely go insane if I were to try it for a living or sum extra extra extra cash. Humph ? !!
I’m same with you when I started my business , I also less than $100 in my bank account, 0 in saving , 0 income , my car was towed because I didn’t have any money pay for the installment, my parents didn’t understand what I was doing that time, deceived by customer T_T……..etc.I’m deeply understanding the bitterness of an entrepreneurs. After few years when you see your business growing up , the public sour things of the past is worth paying ^^
When you are a beginner in any business, you must have a proper plan for at least three years because you can do a lot with your business in further days. So you must prepare a pre-step by writing a business plan.
There is a lot of crappy advice these days and its easy to get sucked into the get rich quick douchey ads you see on the internet about how easy it is to do this. The truth of the matter is that it takes a ton of work to build your agency and it takes a number of trusted partners (like Marketer’s Center) to get all your services down.
Create geo-targeted evergreen pages, create geo-optimized profiles, location pages, support or reseller pages, whatever. No matter how abstract your business is you can find some way to make it locally relevant.
Each client is coming to you for different reasons and it’s important to always have that in mind when working with them. They all want help growing or maintain their business, but this looks different to them dependent on their outlook and business.
Pretty basic question for an SEO right? It would be nice if the answer were equally as basic or simple. It’s an important question, even more so since a sweeping update by Google knocked out unsuspecting webmasters.
the difficult thing here is that when you start… then you are a startup as well. An established company does not want to work with you most of the time for the same reasons you want to work with them. Therefore you have to work with the B-players at first until you gain some momentum. Also it is very important to know your own value and price appropriately. But that is not when you start. When you start you work your ass off for nothing. Thats just the nature of things. It is dangereous to be too selective at the start in my experience. you need to eat shit before things begin to run your way
I do offer one caution about learning SEO from the Internet. There is an abundance of information out there, some good, and much bad. You must quickly become aware that not everyone who proclaims themselves to be an expert is really an expert. (Tip: If they claim they know “the trick” to getting #1 rankings in Google, overnight, guaranteed no less, they are NOT the experts you want to follow.)
I can’t stress enough the financial burden you carry, especially if you are a single-income household with a family, in a volatile industry that is further impacted by a recession; and oh yeah, often unrealistic clients 🙂 and competitors trying to make SEO a commodity through pricing & crappy solutions. To minimize your own stress, you need to already have a rainy-day fund (which you should keep building for when the $h#% hits the fan), an accepted family that you can stick to, access to credit or cash when you need it, and a well-defined profit margin for your services. Flying solo, YOU are the inventory — you have to be able to SELL yourself & services — then be prepared to change hats & deliver the goods…..day in & day out. Oh yeah, you have to somehow keep a pipeline of new opportunities b/c we all know there is a life cycle with SEO client work. Your rainy day fund helps bridge the gap in between work. I highly recommend 6-month+ contracts that yield you recurring revenue — this gives predictability and consistent cash flow you can manage.
An important point to discuss is what you should be charging your clients for SEO. This is a very hard question to answer in black and white as there are many factors to be considered, I will explain this in more detail later on in the guide.
Google Analytics & Google (PPC) Pay-Per-Click Online Advertising, Facebook Ads(These tools are commonly used by many businesses and are very easy to use. Google Analytics allows you to track your website traffic and its various sources, Google Adwords allows you to find out exactly what keywords your target audience is searching for, Google Adwords + Facebook Ads allow you to create target ads on their respective platforms)
