“start a home seo business & make monthly recurring income coupon search engine optimization notes”

I’ve had a client who took so long to pay me for delivered (in fact, over-delievered) services, his wife had a baby… no, she actually did, and she wasn’t pregnant when I sent the invoice. I learned my lesson the hardway, if you’re reading this – no excuses for falling into the same trap.

Make it super easy to contact you. One thing we noticed at my agency was that the more contact forms we had, the more submissions we would get. So we added a contact form on almost every page and our conversions went way up. We also made sure our contact forms were only 4-5 to fields at most. Statistically, that gave us the most conversions. Here’s a blueprint of the perfect contact form that will get the most conversions.

Now that you have a handle on your key concepts and have built a strategic keyword list, you’re ready to create a high-level plan for content creation. I say high-level because this will help inform your website user experience, the type of people you hire, and the kind of narrative, social, video, or other type of digital content you invest in.

There is a lot of crappy advice these days and its easy to get sucked into the get rich quick douchey ads you see on the internet about how easy it is to do this. The truth of the matter is that it takes a ton of work to build your agency and it takes a number of trusted partners (like Marketer’s Center) to get all your services down.

While you don’t need the letters “PMP” after your name to efficiently begins practicing this discipline, keeping a well-organized project management template, such as this Google spreadsheet is a good solution to get started.

Large companies tend to want to deal with large agencies. Large companies may have their own internal search team. There comes a point where it is cheaper to hire someone full time that hire an external consultant, and that point is the average full time salary plus employment costs.

So how do you get links? There are lots and lots of ways to do it – some good, and some not so good. If you read enough about link building, you will hear ultimately about three kinds of links and link building techniques.

Great post. Most of my SEO clients come from referrals and they are converted from leads to clients by, as you say “giving away the farm” (I like to call it consultative selling). Once they see what can be done its a no brainer. I now need to get some bigger clients to turn my agency from 6 figure to a 7 figures.

Great post – really goes to show three things. 1) You can find a great business idea from anywhere as long as you keep your eyes open. 2) That hard work really does pay off over time, and 3) we, as small business owners, can learn anything we set our minds too. Great post.

The number of small businesses coming online is increasing rapidly. But unfortunately, most brick and mortar businesses are still offline. This is an avenue for you to make extra cash by convincing them to put their business online and educating them about free traffic / customers.

You need to also develop a system that would help you check and correct errors that can hurt SEO ranking for your clients’ websites. Some of the errors that can negatively affect SEO rankings are broken links, wrong names, complicated URL and poor grammar.

According to the 2015 Form Conversion Report by Formstack, only about 1% of small contact forms (about 4 fields) get filled out on websites. That means only 1 out of 100 people that visit your SEO company’s website will fill out your contact form. The other 99 will leave your website and probably never contact you for SEO services. This is a huge problem. So many potential clients who need SEO visit and leave your site forever, never having contacted you. You need a way to get way more of your visitors, and potential customers, to give you their contact information when visiting your website. As I pointed out earlier, relying on your contact form isn’t good enough.

By taking the above steps one at a time, your site will be poised for local SEO success. Plus, the beauty of organic search is that, once set up correctly, you can enter into tweak and maintenance mode. All of the work done to set up a site correctly is sustainable and will continue driving quality traffic to your site. May the search be with you!

What other forms of advertising/marketing do they currently use?: This question is a good one for a few reasons. Firstly because it gives you an idea of the sort of money the business owner is already spending on advertising. Secondly, once the business owner has revealed what advertising they currently pay for, you can ask them if they are happy with the response they are getting from that advertising. In most cases you will find that the answer to that question is that they simply don’t know. This is where you can explain how they can track exactly how many more targeted visitors they will get to their website through your SEO efforts.

Does the business owner have any questions of their own?: Make sure that before you get round to actually trying to close any deal that you make sure the business owner has no questions left unanswered. By asking this it saves you having to think about all the possible questions that need to be asked and let the client do this for you. You need to make sure that the business owner is clear about how the process works and what you will be doing in the coming months to get them to where they want to be in the search engines.
While this is a time saver, the most important aspect of cold calling is the script you are using. In this case, I always used a script which was strictly for getting my foot in the door for an appointment. Once I have the appointment I know I have a very good chance of closing the client – more on that later though.
I’ve struggled with whether I want to work for clients or work on my own authority site. I know there is good money in both. I am willing to bet that the folks ranking at the top for stuff like “best hosting” or “hosting reviews” etc must make at least 40k a month. You can make the same amount with an agency but then you would also have to deal with clients.
