Sometimes, I see some SEO firms marketing their business using only paid advert methods such as Google Adwords. On that basis I think there are definitely worse companies out there that someone new to the industry could outsource their client work to.
Start off by partnering with a couple local web design freelancers, then start offering web design to your SEO clients. After all, many SEO projects require an overhaul of the client’s site because the development is super old and very SEO unfriendly. Once you’re getting more web design business, and only when you’re getting enough web design business, bring on the web designer full-time.

What I started doing was estimating how much more traffic I could drive to the companies. I would take their current rankings and use the multiplier from this table. So, if they ranked #6 for a keyword that drove them 1,000 visitors a month and I thought I could take them to #1, I would estimate that I could drive them 10,400 visitors, which is 9,400 extra visitors than they currently have.

It is important that you have the right tools and resources to help you measure the success of your SEO efforts. If you don’t have this, then you will not be able to tell which of your strategies is effective and which you need to develop on.
Referrals whether through social media or from face-to face clients are always the way. Although we deliver a service that can easily be supplied remotely, relationships is the way to build a business sustainably.
