Offline… that’s right, I said it. Cold-calling works, but not the best way to go. Innovate. Word of mouth = 100% conversion rate. Good friends with your accountant? Have him offer your services to his clients at a friendly-discounted rate… it works, and will help you build up your credibility quick. Family and friends is obvious… time to put your social networking to work!
I have no doubt that if you purchase this course and put in the effort you could be well on your way to owning your very own SEO business. It IS NOT a get rich quick scheme nor is it a walk in the park, it will take work on your part.
It seems that this strategy relies on the theory that there are limits to DIY and by providing DIY answers, your potential leads will come to not only respect your brand, but come to an understanding of their own limitations internally. A photo taken by someone who doesn’t do it every day will never be as quality as product photographed by a us, a company that shoots products daily and the same goes for SEO.
Let the local leaders of thought know about you. Leave mentions about your business and they will attract clients from the right area to your site like a magnet. For this purpose, links from local directories, sites, and forums will do the trick.
Some social medias are very popular now, like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Google+. Like Facebook, you can build the pages for the company or products, and you can communicate with the potential customers conveniently.
So, I would advise you to choose it as the platform for your website. For the design, you can hire a professional website designer for a few hundred bucks. But if you are on a tight budget, consider buying a fully customizable professional theme.
Apart form quality content, are there any real differentiatng tactics to outdo the competition (assuming them busy with explained techniques) or outsmart the search engine ranking programs. Sincerely, need your thoughts.

Hi Neil, again, I have found you and your articles to be very awe-inspiring! Like many others who have contributed to this article (as comments), I too, want to get started in SEO and was wondering how to go about it.
I am very sure you must have heard of search engine optimization. If you are having a business and have a website then many SEO guys must have proposed you with an offer that they will rank your website at so and so position on Google. And that they will bring a lot of quality traffic to your website and make your business hot marketplace. Well SEO is an art how you optimize your website for search engine so that they will crawl the content and display your web address whenever users are searching in your niche.
Maybe if I search for “Why you should not be self employed,” or “The Risks, Debt, Decisions and Distractions of being Self Employed,” perhaps I’d find an article at SEOBook that gave a checklist and explanations of things to do
You will now be fast approaching the part of the meeting where you either close this thing down and leave with a new client on board, or you will be leaving with another meeting, or worst case scenario, the client will need time to ‘think about it’.

Networking in person at business events is one of the most effective ways of finding new clients to purchase your SEO services. The easiest way to get started is by joining your local chamber of commerce. This will introduce you to many local business owners and entrepreneurs like yourself who NEED the service you are offering.
I personally recommend you to not implement or practice SEO only on client sites but also create your own site, build links, rank your keywords higher, attract huge traffic and try to implement all new strategies that strike your mind. As you learn what works for your blog or website you will help others in better way with their SEO.
You would think this goes without saying, but you’d be surprised to know how many people want to start a SEO consulting business without knowing SEO that well. It takes a couple of years of working with websites, analyzing web traffic and writing articles in order to become proficient in SEO. There are some basic skills you should already have, such as identifying and analyzing keywords, writing quality content, using Google Analytics or other similar analytic programs, writing meta tags and meta descriptions etc.
Why does the industry have such a huge public perception problem? I think the reason so many here hesitate is that there are a lot – a LOT – of bad SEOs out there. The former clients of those who don’t quite know what they’re doing or who are simply unscrupulous then “learn” that SEO is an industry of snake oil, sleight of hand and scam artists and they make sure everyone within earshot knows it. That’s what gets reported in the media. Hell, there was some cop/legal procedural TV show recently that perpetuated the scam artist stereotype when the defendant, an SEO, worried about the jury being prejudiced against him because of his job.
NOTE: For the first time in the guide I’m going to be using some SEO industry terms. If you are a complete beginner then don’t worry, as I stated at the beginning of the article, you will only need a very basic knowledge of SEO to be able to make this business a success. I will explain all at the end of the guide.
Newspapers are always looking for good, well written content that they can publish. If you can either write, or have a professional write, a solid, easy to understand article about SEO and how it affects businesses, then there is every chance that it could end up published in your local newspaper.
When you feel that the meeting has come to a conclusion and every possible question the business owner has asked has been answered, it’s time to get down to the nitty gritty and talk money. If the client doesn’t take the lead then a good way to get things started is to say;
Start connecting with people who you want to see your website in search results. Use the search box on Google+ to find people to connect with and add them to your circles. Hopefully, most will add you back.
Modern content management systems do a pretty good job in this area, and if you are using WordPress you are really lucky as there are some great SEO plugins that make tuning the technical side of things easy.
Only you know for sure, but it pays to spend a bit of time taking a good look at yourself, your existing skills and what you really like doing before you decide if “working for someone else” or “working for yourself” is the right answer.
As simple as it may sound, but a lot of those strengths and weaknesses are not immediately clear and only become clear with experience and time and trying various things, which can take some years. Also, opportunities based on your strengths may not be readily available, so one needs to put focused effort in that direction. For ex., I have realized by now that there are some things I am really good at, they come natural to me (to the point that I was taking them for granted), and they happen to be difficult for a lot of people/competitors. So I am now trying to focus on that.
As an SEO company, look for ad agencies to partner with as there are a number of ad agencies that are way bigger than SEO agencies. Feel free to cold call them and offer free help with their own websites. If you do well, they’ll drive a lot of clients to you.
Thanks for the comment! I agree will all of that! I took on plenty of undesirable clients when I started out. You definitely have to hustle in the beginning, but get more selective as you bring on more clients. To be honest, realistic revenue for client SEO is in the six figures per year. That is, if you are doing strong work and have effective lead generation channels.
I think you really have a lot of valuable information in this post. For me you really connected on a personal level mentioning you started trying to earn money in high school, but even though you weren’t successful the first go around, you were willing to go again. This post was a informational, and influential post, thanks!
Really great post. I am currently in the process of structuring my SEO Digital Agency name Fancy Apples Digital Agency. However, I am stuck on a few things, such as how to register the name of the company, Corp S, LLC, ect? If possible i would love to get your expertise on structuring my business to see which works well for a SEO AGENCY. Thank you appreciate your time.
Thanks for the great info Neil! You really put the smaller clients into perspective and I like how you seem to focus on the Pumpkin strategy and building bigger clients. I think that’s one area that I can use a lot of improvement in. Needless to say I’ll be updating my companies strategies and plan of attack based off of some of these recommendations.
Get your clients some rankings: It is important to use your portfolio to show. If a client sees that you are ranking for a keyword that is according to its industry, they might contact you. So, it is very important to maintain a loss of the portfolio so that you can start.
