My advice for you, if you really want to do SEO, is to specialize in a particular service or industry. Get really good at link building or E-Commerce SEO…or specialize in travel or real estate SEO… something very specific that you can master. Once you build connections in a particular niche (writers, site owners, bloggers, directories, etc. etc.) the results will be much easier to attain and duplicate. Then you build a name for yourself in that niche and you can easily sell potential clients and get tons of referrals from existing ones.
I’ve learned not to take on clients that have expectations that do not match reality. We have found throughout the years that the best clients are the ones who are self-sufficient and educated in the digital marketing process. The clients that require too much education often do not understand the value we provide and end up causing wasted time and resources.
Depending on how you go about the business, you might need to spend a lot of time to get started. I have listed below the 5 things you really need to focus on when starting and then continuing your SEO business that earns you profits.
Helping people for free is still so under-rated… especially for newbies really trying to build a brand. I think this is the most powerful tip on this list as it allows you not only to build genuine relationships but affords you the opportunity to provide direction and advice on websites that are potentially much larger than your own (or any of your current clients for that matter) and see the results; building both trust and brand awareness at the same time.
The best place to hide a website is Page 2 of a google search result! Unless a company website finds itself on the first page of a search engine result, chances are very slim for it to get much viewers and customers.
I have three main recommendations. And maybe a warning – like one of those signs you see in horror movies – go back, do not enter, trouble ahead. This is no easy gig so you need to ensure you are up for the task.
Again, I’m not an attorney, but this is what I did. I waited a few months before creating an LLC for my business. I made a little money first, then incorporated. The reason I did this is because incorporating costs money. In Illinois it’s about $500-$600, plus $250 per year. No need to waste that money if you never get business. I asked my accountant, Gaurang Patel of Southloop CPA in Chicago, IL, about this. Here’s what he said:
You will now be fast approaching the part of the meeting where you either close this thing down and leave with a new client on board, or you will be leaving with another meeting, or worst case scenario, the client will need time to ‘think about it’.

The biggest challenge relates to trust. SEO and Internet marketers have become the used car salesmen of tech (no offense to used car salesmen!). There are several reasons why business owners do not trust SEO agencies:
What an amazing course, i got a review copy from Aehs01 and i must admit that the course is so detailed. I didn’t took all the course but i took the most important videos. I do own a SEO company myself and definitely there are some amazing unknown ways on how to land new clients.
In that time, our sales revenue has increased almost five-fold as a result of work we did two years ago. To maintain the results you achieve through solid SEO, you must continue to demonstrate the relevance and quality of your site.
Chapter 7 goes into great detail about the consulting process from dealing with difficult client question, establishing a price point, drawing contracts, and understanding the type of deliverable you should be creating.
Ok, the first thing that you may be thinking is ‘I don’t know anything about SEO!’; Don’t worry if you don’t know anything about SEO (Search Engine Optimisation), because all you need to do in the end is find someone who does – I will discuss this later on in the guide.
Trends – This tool allows you to compare keywords and analyze how users are searching Google. Google Trends can be very helpful when comparing your business to competitors, or by finding the right search terms for your business.
What ?? Boy do I feel stupid. I mess around for hours and hours reading and testing and trying different ideas . And for me atleast SEO . Is a difficult ever changing tedius project. My God . I would absolutely go insane if I were to try it for a living or sum extra extra extra cash. Humph ? citation intake and reports are non-branded so if you upsell this to clients, they probably won’t know you outsourced this. They also offer a citation clean-up service if they’re a complete mess.
Partner with the right people whether it’s local or overseas using a website like freelancer.com. You need to build a team so you can either refer your client to them and make a referral commission, or use an affiliate link (eg. if you refer them to Whitespark). This is KEY to building a scalable local SEO business while making extra cash on the side. Cause let’s face it, a 1-person SEO freelancer can’t do it all. Check out my list of WordPress affiliate programs to get some ideas.
Also, traffic for SEO keywords for huge cities like “SEO Los Angeles” and “SEO Chicago” is extremely low (despite the very high KD) compared to traffic for things like “best office chair” which has more volume but a lower LTV…

Gathering business names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses can be a very lengthy and tiresome process. Sure you can trawl through online directory sites and find bits and pieces of information which you can then use to reach out to these businesses but it costs valuable time.
