One online business industry that is particularly popular at the moment is the ‘Search Engine Optimization’ industry, or simply SEO. It is one of the only industries that opens their doors even to the most inexperienced individuals, who have a serious passion for doing business. Not only is it easier to be employed within this industry, but it’s reasonably simple to start your own SEO business!
3) Have very clearly articulated expectations. Sometimes it is not possible to have everything clearly defined in terms of what eventually needs to be accomplished. For such projects I have learned over time to make sure to include in the contract (a) clearly defined tangible deliverables and (b) clearly defined activities that I would do. For ex., if I am doing a Needs Assessment for a community-based organization (CBO), I wouldn’t now just say a “report with findings and recommendations.” Because a “report” can mean totally different things to different people. I now would actually spell out anticipated page number range, and actually bring to the client several examples of such/similar reports (my own and others) and nail it down with the client (and “stakeholders”): “Here, is this the kind of report we are talking about? If not, let’s agree what’s different you would like to see, etc.”
Only you know for sure, but it pays to spend a bit of time taking a good look at yourself, your existing skills and what you really like doing before you decide if “working for someone else” or “working for yourself” is the right answer.
You’re probably asking yourself now, ‘What should I be saying in the meeting???’, glad you asked, let’s cover what you need to do and say in the meeting to ensure you give yourself the best chance of closing the deal…
If you do some research, you can find so many website owners ready to provide a guest post link on their blog in just $5. There are many others who can provide manual social bookmark links or other quality links for $5.
I’m sure fellow marketers will agree, developing and executing a solid that consistently provides you with new clients and guarantees timely payments will save you quite a few grey hairs, and probably your sanity… but above all, let you keep your boat afloat.
The first thing you need to know is that there are unlimited freelancers and contractors in the digital marketing industry. You can find local freelancers or remote contractors everywhere. That being said, grow your SEO company by hiring freelancers first. Find a freelancer that you’d like to work with and hire them for your different projects. Pay them only when you get paid. You never want to pay your freelancers before you get paid. Maintaining positive cash flow is very important to keeping your business running. Only hire your freelancer or contractor when you have steady business for them. That could be after a few months or even years. There’s no need or reason to commit a salary to anyone until you are ready, and it’s totally OK if you’re never ready.
Include any Market research you have done. Outline your distribution channels. Outline any strategic alliances you have. Outline your promotion plan. Prepare a Marketing budget. How will you appear credible in the eyes of your target market?
1. Understand all on-page and off-page SEO optimization techniques. You must be able to properly perform an SEO audit, keyword research, competitive analysis, and know how to get quality links quickly.
Young Upstarts is a business and technology blog that champions new ideas, innovation and entrepreneurship. It focuses on highlighting young people and small businesses, celebrating their vision and role in changing the world with their ideas, products and services.
When you first meet with a business owner face to face, the first thing you want to do is ask them some important questions. Here are a few of the more important ones I ask, along with the reasons why and how the answers can help steer your meeting to a successful conclusion:
You convince a prospect to sign up to have you perform SEO services on their website to target 10 keywords. You previously checked the price that the SEO reseller company charges to optimise 10 keywords per month. In this example, let’s say that the SEO reseller company charges £250 (~US$400) for SEO services on 10 keywords per month.
Whenever someone asks me for some advice for starting their own SEO business or they are thinking about doing some freelance work, I immediately direct them to a much frowned upon medium in the SEO world, a book.
The SEO franchise model may be cost prohibitive, but an SEO licensing model can be a great fit for many consultants and web design agencies. Look for SEO business licensing opportunities that include some type of lead generation service. A proven SEO brand will attract leads and some may offer affordable lead generation services.
NOTE: When I first started in this business, I had absolutely no experience of face to face selling. However, after landing only my second meeting using the techniques I’ve already explained in the guide so far, I managed to secure my first client in only my second meeting with a business owner… And it was a deal worth £2,000 (~US$3,200) per month!
It’s free and you can do this in one weekend. To get your Google Analytics certification you should have a practice Google Analytics account (a live website). Then follow the video tutorials from Course 1 and Course 2 which is also has practice quizzes – making it easy.
What creating any SEO business, it’s vital that you start with developing your personal brand. The first thing I would recommend is to decide who you want to be in this industry and how you want to differentiate yourself.
Great advice Marvin, especially this part: “Trust me on this. Don’t waste your valuable time on things anyone can do.” Getting stuck on stupid shit like reading emails that don’t matter or focusing on stuff that doesn’t make money is a time kill and a slow death to growth.
That really depends on the business. If you are charging people a lot of money and not bringing results then you will lose clients. So honestly, you must have a process that works at a competitive price if you really want to make money.
Local SEO is a facet of SEO that focuses on optimizing organic results that serve local results. Whether or not a query receives local results in the SERP depends upon the search engine’s interpretation of the user intent. Mobile queries, location-based queries (e.g. [Los Angeles tacos]), or service-oriented queries (e.g. [suit tailor]) will return local results. Even a query as broad as [tacos] will trigger local results, as search engines assume the user is quite likely hungry and seeking food:
I would help them with SEO audits, citations (core online profiles/directories), on-page SEO, speed optimization and Google Search Console. In 3 months my website was getting around 500 visitors/day resulting in about 2 inquiries/day for my services. This was on top of the $600/month affiliate income through my blog.
We will understand these three factors but before let’s look at the stats shared by MOZ – as per MOZ survey “ 4 billion desktop queries in United States are about local businesses, products or services”.
Do some proprietary research about how bad psychics are at marketing themselves and publish it on YouMoz (e.g. “10 Psychics’ Predictions About Google’s Next Algo Update”). Find a Psychics convention and apply to be a speaker.
The other good thing about the Studio Press Themes is that you can simply paste your Aweber code in to the theme and that’s’ it all set up and ready to go at the click of a button. For anyone who is unsure of who Aweber are, they provide an opt in email service.
Let me start this section by clarifying that I am not a lawyer. If any of this seems like legal advise, it’s not. I’m just telling you my personal experience and preference with SEO contracts. Since 2003, I’ve used about five or six different SEO contracts. In that time, my SEO contracts grew and grew in length until they were about 30 pages. Then, about two years before I sold my SEO company, I threw my giant, colossal, and scary SEO contract in the garbage and started a fresh one, one more time. But this time I did it on my own. No lawyers. No outside advice. I just went with my gut.
What an amazing course, i got a review copy from Aehs01 and i must admit that the course is so detailed. I didn’t took all the course but i took the most important videos. I do own a SEO company myself and definitely there are some amazing unknown ways on how to land new clients.
The third challenge you are going to face is getting clients, so you may have to spend a good amount of money sourcing for clients both online and offline. You may have to make cold calls, talk to clients face-to-face, run ad campaigns online, etc.
You will earn a lot of karma points, and you’ll notice that people will start saying great things about you to other businesses or people, which eventually will get you more business. But the key is to not expect anything in return when helping people.
Whether they have arrived at your site and requested a free SEO report by signing up to your mailing list, or you are trying to entice business owners to buy your services on LinkedIn, offering free SEO reports is essential to your business and you must make sure you do it properly to secure these potential future clients as actual paying clients. Here’s how to do it;
Jeff, glad we could hop into a dialogue. I really think the points you brought up are great! SEO strategies can be extended to so many other avenues — like photography as you mentioned. I think no matter your size, there are certain techniques that cross many boundaries and are helpful to all. Thanks for the words of support 🙂
Clients only care about results. You can provide all the reports on all the great services you provided, but if they are not getting new customers then it is only a matter of time before they leave you.
After the design, you should put up good content on your website that describes your services and explains why the reader should hire your services. Also put up all the necessary pages; such as about us, our services, contact us, testimonials/case studies, pricing, and so on.
The easiest way to do to this is to get in touch with your existing customer base and see if they’d be interested in leaving you a review. You could perhaps offer them incentives in the form of discounts to leave a good word about your business. If you do happen to get negative reviews, don’t ignore them! Acknowledge negative feedback and respond to them nicely. Your aim is to diffuse the situation and possibly make an offer to make up for whatever their dissatisfaction was. This lets potential customers know you’re sincere about improving your business to serve them better.
