It’s important to outsource as much as you can but do not put all of your eggs in one basket so that if one person quits your whole process doesn’t fall apart. Also, start marketing and building your list from the very beginning – don’t rely only on referrals because eventually you will need more revenue sources if you want to continue to grow.
We have a beta license and beta certification in development right now, and while these programs are not yet available to the general public, you can learn more about SEO certification and contact us to be put on the early notification list.
Another great post. I am a customer of your Quick Sprout product which i purchased a while back which i found very usefull in my day to day dealings. One thing i am struggling with at the moment is producing a step by step plan that will allow me to fully analyse a clients website and SEO position top to bottom including their top competitors links etc and then present these findings to them with our quote. It seems i need tons of different products to do this. Do you have any tips on how we can do this without spending so much time and tools to make it happen? I always provide upfront in depth detail about what we do for a clients site but always looking to improve. Thanks in advance. Bill

Having a process in place, preferably written down, is what separates the amateurs from the experts. This is more evident as you start to hire support personnel. To avoid bottlenecking in the growth stages, it’s necessary to delegate or outsource more repetitive and lower-costing tasks. Without a process in place, effectively shifting those responsibilities can be fraught with complications or worse yet, errors.
Scott, I that price range is realistic. You really have to show them the value proposition you are offering them. Back it up with case studies and your past work. Shoot me an email so we can discuss some options. email@example.com
My advice to anyone who is looking to start an SEO business is actually learn how to do SEO on your own sites for a period of time before actually taking on clients, test numerous things and actually do some heavy research first.
That really depends on the business. If you are charging people a lot of money and not bringing results then you will lose clients. So honestly, you must have a process that works at a competitive price if you really want to make money.
And to start an SEO business that will succeed, you need to know how to run the business part of the business. As a bonus, you’ll also be able to grow professionally and learn SEO 10x faster than you would on your own.
Now that you have a handle on your key concepts and have built a strategic keyword list, you’re ready to create a high-level plan for content creation. I say high-level because this will help inform your website user experience, the type of people you hire, and the kind of narrative, social, video, or other type of digital content you invest in.
I believe SEO and web design go hand in hand. In fact SEO should be done before, after and during web design and development. If you don’t offer web design and development services, you could be hurting your SEO results and losing business. When you just offer SEO consulting to a third party web design and development team, and don’t do the actual SEO work, much of what you recommend could get lost in translation. Something won’t get implemented properly and something won’t get done at all. This will hurt results and make you look bad.
As trite and simple as it sounds, communication is the one thing that should be a constant. After an interaction with a very unhappy client, we made it a policy to have a weekly phone call with the business owner. This keeps things from getting out of hand and it also helps build and maintain the relationship.
Nowadays, it doesn’t take that much money to start up a business, particularly an online business! You can start your own website/blog for less than $100 and start that way. Many people have started their own online business and grown it into a successful and profitable one.
As you are done with learning SEO, now it’s time for the site. This is the crucial step in setting up an SEO business, as everyone will first have a look at your website, there is no way that clients will come to you directly and give the projects to you.
