I think it would work as it builds trust. If you find that it is hurting you, you can then start blocking some of it off and creating paywalls. But overall giving away the farm really helps build trust loyalty. I’ve found that it causes more people willing to open up their wallets.

As I spend ever more time in this career field and meet more and more of my peers, industry colleagues, and of course, the noteworthy thought-leaders in this field, I’ve come to realize how many varied paths there are to becoming a working SEO. And let’s be clear: the career of being an SEO is not just one skill set or task. There are many career opportunities in the field of search engine marketing, with SEO being just a subset of that, and then there are many areas of specialization within SEO itself. I loved what you said about the advertising companies. We actually do an advertising companies Listings and social media for free and they helped us grow from doing 10k in our first month by our selves cold calling, to 50k our second month. We still have that deal with them.

It’s certainly good that you’re doing your research and gathering information. However, I think that many of my colleagues would agree that nothing has taught us more than actually doing the work. Reading up on SEO can give you some good general knowledge, but actually having the experience of seeing what works and what doesn’t, especially in different market spaces, is priceless.

 “What is the lifetime value of every new customer/client you gain?” – This can be a brilliant question as if they do know the exact number then you can then look at the potential monthly search volume for all keywords and say something like; “Well, once we’ve got your website to number 1 for all these keywords, you will be receiving roughly around 40% of the total number of people searching which would be around [X amount] new visitors every month. Even if you only converted 1% of these new prospects in to new customers/clients, you’ll still have gained [X amount] new customers/clients. Based on the lifetime value of each new customer/client you get, that should be new customers/clients every month you will be gaining which have a lifetime value to the tune of [X amount]… And that’s not even including the future customers/clients they will recommend through word of mouth!”. One thing about this example is that you need to have proficient arithmetic skills, if you don’t then just take a calculator with you to meetings. If the business owner doesn’t know how much the lifetime vale of each customer/client is, then still do the calculation of visitors versus a 1% conversion rate and present them with the final number that way, it’ll still be effective.

TIP: It’s best to use this example when presenting the business owner with both the list of targeted keywords with the search volume *(the amount that should be inserted in to the statement at ‘[X amount]’) for each one and a screenshot from Google of one of the main keywords with their main competitors’ front page listings highlighted on the front page.

I wrote a long, in-depth article about this already, so I will highlight the points here. Re-signing an SEO client is about 10 times cheaper than finding a new one, so I would really focus on this. There are five easy steps to re-signing an SEO client:

Thanks for the comment! I agree will all of that! I took on plenty of undesirable clients when I started out. You definitely have to hustle in the beginning, but get more selective as you bring on more clients. To be honest, realistic revenue for client SEO is in the six figures per year. That is, if you are doing strong work and have effective lead generation channels.

You can start an online business on whatever you want, whether it’s; a cookery site teaching people how to eat healthy food, a site selling scale model boats, a local dog walking business, a professional consultancy business dealing with multinationals, even selling your own art! etc. Online businesses are cheap to initially set-up and allows you to reach a large market of people via the internet.

“SEO has the highest long term ROI of any form of marketing.” – This is something I say which some people may not agree with but here’s why I think it’s true; When SEO is done properly and ethically, and you achieve top ranking results across targeted keywords with good search volume, these rankings then have the potential to stay there (without any additional optimisation required) potentially for YEARS to come. I don’t know of any other form of marketing that can keep on returning that sort of value consistently, day after day, years after you have stopped paying for it. This again is a good thing to follow up with after you make this statement to the client as every business owner will be delighted with the prospect of still receiving traffic/leads/clients long after they have paid for the SEO services.

“Research shows that 82% of new customers research a business online before making a purchase decision. Do you know where your business is in the Google rankings for your targeted keywords?” – This stat brings home just how important it is for the business to be prominent in the search engines. It also shows the prospective client that you have done your homework and know what you’re doing which will go some way to help you increase your authority figure status in the industry. You can enlighten the business owner with a printout of exactly where they currently rank for all the keywords you have researched for them by using the ranking tracker tool in Market Samurai or SEO Power Suite.

You need to become obsessed and fight like crazy to get to page #1 of Google for SEO service related keywords in your geographical area. Usually, the best keyword to target customers is “SEO” + your city. In other words, if you’re starting an SEO company in Albany, New York, you should target “SEO Albany”. I’m sure some of you are getting worried right now because you live in big cities where other SEO companies dominate the first page of Google. Stop worrying. While you’re fighting your way to page #1 of Google for a very competitive keyword, target low hanging fruit like “SEO services Albany”, “seo company Albany NY”, or “Albany SEO company”. The trick is that you have to be on Page #1 for something. This will give you credibility when it’s time to close the deal. Not only will potential customers find you, but in sales meetings you can also point that your SEO business is on the top of page #1 of Google for “SEO company in Albany”. Your potential customers have no idea which keywords are the hardest keywords to target in SEO; being on page #1 among and ahead of your SEO competitors will impress the heck out of potential customers. I can’t even count the number of customers who told me they purchased our services because we were on the top of page #1 of Google, ahead of our SEO competitors.

What an amazing course, i got a review copy from Aehs01 and i must admit that the course is so detailed. I didn’t took all the course but i took the most important videos. I do own a SEO company myself and definitely there are some amazing unknown ways on how to land new clients.

1. How would I convince someone to be my head of sales and head of seo and why would they be interested in joining a new business if they are making plenty of money already? How should I approach selling myself to them and convince them that I will not be a time waster and such ?

The title tag on pages of your website tells search engines what the page is about. It should be 70 characters or less and include your business or brand name and keywords that relate to that specific page only. This tag is placed between the tags near the top of the HTML code for the page.

We will understand these three factors but before let’s look at the stats shared by MOZ – as per MOZ survey “ 4 billion desktop queries in United States are about local businesses, products or services”.

You might think a business plan is tedious and not worth the effort. However, it can save you a lot of time, effort and money if it shows you that your business won’t fly. It’s great to model a business on paper before you sink real money into it as there is no risk at this point, yet it will be clear from the business plan if the business has a chance of making money and growing. If the numbers don’t add up on the plan, they won’t do so in real life, either.

When building a link to your company’s website on the local directories, place a priority on those which allow for displaying your physical address, not just a link and a name. We recommend using all possibilities available during registration and building your profile on business listings and directories.

    It seems that this strategy relies on the theory that there are limits to DIY and by providing DIY answers, your potential leads will come to not only respect your brand, but come to an understanding of their own limitations internally. A photo taken by someone who doesn’t do it every day will never be as quality as product photographed by a us, a company that shoots products daily and the same goes for SEO.
    Reaching out to related (but not competitive) businesses to see if they will link to you. A good way to do this is to see if the businesses you work with have link pages on their site for partners, vendors, suppliers, etc.
